Elizabeth Loftus MS. LCPC, RPT, NCC is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with a private practice in Rockville, MD. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Catholic University of America in 2001. Following graduation she began to work in the field of mental health. For three years Elizabeth worked at an Intensive Early Intervention Program for children with Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome and Pervasive Developmental Disorders. In 2007 Elizabeth received her Master’s of Science in Clinical Community Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. In 2009 she became a Registered Play Therapist and a National Certified Counselor. She is a member of the American Counseling Association and the Association for Play Therapy. Currently, she is participating in training sponsored by Montgomery County through the University of Maryland on evidence-based Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Since recieving her Master’s degree Elizabeth has worked as a therapist servicing the community in an outpatient mental health clinic in Montgomery County.
Elizabeth was born and raised in the Metropolitan area and has many roots in the community. She is familiar with local school systems, professionals and resources. Her current practice is comprised of adults, couples, families, adolescents and children. Elizabeth conducts individual, family and group therapy. Her main theoretical orientation and approach is cognitive behavioral and client-centered therapy. She emphasizes the use of evidence-based practices. In addition, she is familiar with techniques from all theoretical orientations and employs them when appropriate.
Elizabeth has worked with issues varying from life adjustments to schizophrenia and other chronic mental illnesses. Her practice includes, among others, working with anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, substance abuse and many childhood disorders such as ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder and trauma based issues. She believes in the strength and resilience of the human spirit and each person’s ability to overcome adversity. Taking into account the mind-body connection, she adopts a holistic view of the person and approaches the therapeutic relationship as a collaboration between client and therapist.
